Fire safety in high rises

A recent BBC London investigation has highlighted the problem of fire safety in tower blocks. At least 300 social housing high-rises have not been fire checked by their local authority – a criminal offence. The BBC has carried out additional research in London, using the freedom of information act to gather information and statistics on the 32 London boroughs.

Geoff Wilkinson of Wilkinson Construction Consultants Ltd, a UK Building Regulations Expert, highlighted the articles to architects and designers on twitter and gives presentations on fire safety in high rise buildings. He said that there has been a 19 billion backlog in housing maintenance, and some notable fires since the 1990s.
